This November it will be twenty five years since Chick King started at M G Road, Kochi. I was a consultant to Chick King for setting up the outlet in Kochi. Met Manzoor, the owner of Al Bayan Group through my good friend Rajan since he wanted to start a branch of Chick King at Kochi. He wanted to start a outlet at M G Road and purchased the 1500 sq ft space at KPCC junction. Chick King then had one outlet at Dubai. It was a franchise from UK. On Manzoor’s invitation visited the outlet in Dubai along with the interior designer Shaleel. Got excited about the product after tasting each and every item and persuaded Manzoor to open the branch without delay at Kochi.
Along with Manzoor worked out the strategy on product range , pricing and promotion. Even tied up with KSIDC for the project funding. We recruited an excellent team who had experience working at Pizza corner , Esplanade. Pizza Corner was closing down at that time. Tied up with best of suppliers like Suguna and Amalgam for procuring chicken and French Frys. Fryers and other equipments were imported from Dubai. Our friend Shaleel did the interior work and decision was taken to start the outlet on 23rd November 2000. Then Kochi Mayor Dinesh Mani inaugurated the outlet and A2Z Jose did the first sale.
Chick King was an instant sucess. The entire products were sold out everyday and there was so much of demand for the all the items in the menu. Since there were no big brands at that period Chick King became a popular outlet for all age groups . Now there are umpteen number of branches for Chick King though out India and even abroad. Chick King brand did become very popular over the years and good to see that it is doing extremely well.
My association with Chick King came to an end after the first outlet started and made operational at M G Road , Kochi. It was a good experience to have involved in all the aspects related to a food brand which is a sucess even in the 25th year of operation. Wishing Chick King and Manzoor all the best and let it grow bigger in the years to come.
